The procedures
grouped together as crowns and bridges restorations involve the preparation
and placement of cast restorations to restore damaged teeth and to
replace missing teeth.
A Crown, also known as full
crown or cast crown, completely covers the anatomic crowns and individual
tooth to restore the tooth to its original contour and function.
A Fixed Bridge is a cast
restoration that replaces one or more missing adjacent teeth in the
arch. This is referred to as a fixed bridge because it is cemented
in place and cannot be removed by patient.
Inlays and Onlays are cast restoration that fit snugly into a preparation
within the tooth. Most commonly, an inlay covers part of the occlusal
and proximal surfaces. An onlay usually covers all of most of the
occlusal and proximal surfaces.

Endodontics
is the specialty of dentistry that deals with the prevention, diagnosis,
and treatment of disorders of the dental pulp. Endodontic treatment,
which is often called Root Canal Treatment (RCT), provides an effective
means of saving teeth that might otherwise require extractions.
Some indications for endodontic treatment are:
• The pulp is nonvital (dead).
Inflamation of the pulp in which the pulp cannot be healed (irreversible
pulpitis).
• The root of the tooth has been fractured
near apex.
• The tooth has been irreversibly damaged
by trauma. Injuries from impact are the most common causes.

Periodontal diseases
involve the bone, ligaments, and tissues that support the teeth
and are leading causes of tooth loss in adults. With ongoing good
oral hygiene, early detection, and appropriate treatment, most
of the disease can be contolled and teeth are not lost.
Periodontal diseases are range from gingivitis
to refractory periodontitis. One of the most common leaning needed
is called scaling and root planning.
The goal of scaling and root planning is to restore the gingival
tissues to health by removing the factors that cause gingival
inflammation: plaque, calculus, and altered cementum.

Removable
prosthodontics is the area of dentistry dealing with replacement of
missing teeth. This is a prosthesis (appliance) that patient is able
to remove and replace. There are two major types: removable partial
dentures and removable complete dentures.
• A Removable Partial Denture,
commonly referred to as a partial, replaces one or
more teeth in one arch.
• A Removable Complete Denture,
commonly referred to as denture, replaces most or
all of the teeth in one arch. |
